I have been playing around with Hydroponics. Got myself a few seeds of Chillis, Sweet Peppers and Tomatoes. The whole subject deserves several posts but simply can’t be bothered to write it all up today. However, I can share a few pictures showing the difference between growing chilli plant outside in the uk in a home made raised bed and some chilli plants potted in a self watering pot under a philips papillon<\/a> lamp in my garage.<\/p>\n

The difference in size of the chilli plants is simply incredible. I hope the fruits will be tasting nice. I understand that the heat will affect how spicy they will turn-up, so with the current heatwave in the uk, my garage is really hot. I am keeping the lights on from 7am to 9pm. I need to add water to the self watering pot every 2 to 3 days…it is drinking a lot of water. (I have not measured the amount of water consumed yet but it is probably something like 5 litres every 2 days).<\/p>\n

I used growell<\/a> in the UK for the propagator<\/a> and the seed trays, the lights. I think that their catalog is amazing. It is full of advice and reasonably priced items. The guys in Wembley are very friendly.<\/p>\n

I modified a cheap Ikea shelf which I modified at least 3 times already. I might share in another post. I started the seeds under simple T5 tubes and only moved to the philips papillon when I had a strong plant. All the tomato plants have been moved outside in a raised bed. I have baby tomatoes and can’t wait for them to turn red.<\/p>\n
