Update on Hydroponics

update1Here is a few pictures of the current state of the plants in the garage. The Lemon balm has been growing quite well. However it seems to have lost most of its scent…very disappointing. I need to research the reason why.

The mist generator is working really well and the cuttings have no got roots growing big time. I added some food to the water during the week but it created some browning on the roots so I completely changed the water to simply replace with clear water. The mister creates a lot of heat in the water. The temperature of the water is up in 30+ degres celsius. I removed the top cover to avoid heat build-up on the cuttings.

The seeds have germinated as well and the young plants are growing nicely. I can’t remember what I planted … I know the front bit is chili plants but I can remember what is the back stuff…maybe salad ?

The orchid I was trying to save is not doing well at all. I removed it from the lights as I think it is actually diseased and I don’t want the disease to spread to the other plants. There might be some little bug eating the roots or something. It has not done well from the beginning so I think it was bad from the outset.

This year I am going to try to grow a lot more simple aromatic plants such as parsley and basil and coriander. This is what we use the most in the kitchen and there will be a real use for the stuff I grow rather than just some nice experiments. I think I will buy the plants from the food store in pots and try to go from there. I looked at the garden center and the plants there are very tiny.
